I want to setup the server to ONLY allow a list of Static IP's I select. The reason is this: I share my internet with a handful of users and I want to assign them a static ip.

The thing is i dont want them changing the IP to something they want to change to when they feel like it so i want to lock Mac Address/ (user a) to 192.168.0.44 (<-example)

can this be done?

if so, how?

thanks.

Yes, this can be done ... I did this long time ago on NT4 if I remember correctly. Not sure how to do on Windows 200*. You may need to collect the MAC address of each NIC.

It would help if you posted what kind of server you had. E.g., Linux, Windows, BSD, OSX, Solaris, etc

you can do that in dhcp i think and you can use wsh to collect mac addresses. i found a script on the net to do that once.

if you want to stop them changing ips you can give then reduced local rights somehow or maybe you can do it with group policy.

some thoughts...go google Smile
