Why when you say "crap" with a it becomes crap with a @?

Like this:
crap :: see its with @ - why not with A?

I mean, this is how it normally shows up when you type the word "C R A P"
crap - do you see it says with "@" and not with "a"

C R @ P < it says
why not C R A P

Crap crap CRAP. I have no idea what you're talking about. Very Happy

In all seriousness though, it's a word filter. I used the html equivalent of each character (c, r, a and p) in order for it not to get filtered.

If you copy and paste the following into a new post, you'll get the desired response:

Since we are a family-oriented site, we take some effort to keep the language cleaned up by using a word filter.

Yes, there are many ways to trick the word filter -- however, we also use human moderators who take notice of these efforts Wink and will; at the least, edit the post to remove commonly offensive words.

Ok, without causing offence to any staff on my first day. But if you consider the word crap to be worthy of filtering. Then would it not make sense to filter it, rather than replace a comon vowel only making it look like something 12 year olds type when using MSN Messenger? Confused

I believe the filtering of said word has to do with the difference between UK & US English.

In one region (I always forget which -- I believe its UK) said word is used all the time, while it is considered offensive in the other region.

I could be all wrong, but this is something I noticed...

Ok...aren't vulgar words not in the dictionary? Cr.a.p is! It's just vulgar slang, so it does brush on offensive, but it's better than using it's synonyms!

crap (krp) Vulgar Slang
n.

1. Excrement.
2. An act of defecating.
3. Foolish, deceitful, or boastful language.
4. Cheap or shoddy material.
5. Miscellaneous or disorganized items; clutter.
6. Insolent talk or behavior.
