About SETI@home

SETI@home is the largest, most successful Internet distributed computing project to date. Launched in May 1999 to search through signals collected by the Arecibo Radio Telescope in Puerto Rico (the world's largest radio telescope) the project originally received far more terabytes of data every day than its assigned computers could process. So the project directors turned to volunteers, inviting individuals to download the SETI@home software to donate the idle processing time on their computers to the project.

Ok!

I've got the command line Linux version running on a 5 hourly cron job and I've stuck the Windows screensaver version on this machine so it can churn it out when I'm sleeping and at work.

I'll stick it on some other machines tommorow.

Come on SFDC let's get these CPU's pumping!

Thanks for the participation, nice stats hugo, how many machines / what time period is that for ?

Using the linux client you can run several instances by using seperate directories

So you can have a seti client running for each CPU Laughing Laughing

I registered (for the second time after a hard-drive crash which resulted in loss of the account details) on Fri Jun 14 17:18:42 2002 UTC. I can't remember exactly when I first signed on btw, that must've been in 99 maybe even.

I run SETI on about 8 machines, mostly Pentium-class machines (1 dual processor), not at all that impressive really. The two fastest machines run at approximately 750Mhz.

If it hasn't been too long, the data is probably still there, but I doubt they'll transfer the results to a new account.

I suggest you mail someone at SETI explaining the problem, maybe they can help.

I had to start from 0 after I lost my details, it didn't occur to me then that I could mail them.

Good luck.

As soon as I get my password through I'll join in, already downloaded and running the software - not quite as powerful as some of the kit being used tho (XP2100+, 512 meg, 40 gig) but it'll do.

Hey, I'll be the 8th member, oooooh exciting. Sad sad sad!

is it not possible to install seti remotely and without the annoying dos-box ?
e.a edit the win.ini file and enter a run=c:\seti\seticlient . If i do it like this all users will see a dos box with , as they see it , wierd blabla in it .
I have to authorization to use a network for seti . But it's not possible to install it on every system by going to sit behind the keyboard.

Is it possible to hide the process without aditional software being installed ?
